Longhorn cattle

No two Texas Longhorns are alike. They all differ in color pattern, size, horn length, and personality. People find them easy to raise without the continuous supervision often required by other breeds. The Texas Longhorn is a fun and enjoyable breed.

The Texas longhorn is a hybrid breed resulting from a random mixing of Spanish retinto (criollo) stock and English cattle that Anglo-American frontiersmen brought to Texas from southern and midwestern states in the 1820s

The breed thrives in climates ranging from hot, damp coastal regions to harsh northern winters. The Texas Longhorn is the living symbol of the Old West. Wherever the western influence is desired—front pasture, cattle drives, or tourist attraction—you’ll find a demand for this magnificent breed.

The longhorn's longevity, resistance to disease, fertility, ease of calving, and ability to thrive on marginal pastures. Its growing popularity in beef herds was spurred by a diet-conscious population's desire for lean beef.

Longhorns, with their long legs and hard hoofs, were ideal trail cattle; they even gained weight on the way to market.

Dall Sheep

Throughout the 1900s, there were a number of different breeds of sheep that were bred across the country that resulted in new hybrid breeds that all now fall under the category of Corsican sheep.  The Texas Dall was one of these breeds, and it represents a hybrid cross between Mouflon ewes and Rambouillet rams.

One of the most distinctive features of Texas Dall is that they are completely white with horns and hooves that are typically colorless as well.

Texas Dall rams also have horns that continue to grow throughout their lifetime and do not shed at all. The rams usually grow to be between 130 and 160 pounds, and they have meat that is edible, though the gamey taste means that many chefs will marinate and spice the meat extensively to create well-seasoned meals.
